The Northwest Academy of Music specializes in serving the Christian community. Many of our staff members serve their local churches in music ministry on a regular basis. We are happy to connect you with a teacher who can help you develop your full potential in your pursuit of worshiping God and blessing others through music.
Vocal Choir:Choirs meet 2 times weekly for one hour and will be divided into three groups:
A note to parents about great opportunities for your children in music education
String Program:We understand the need for an area wide program for Christian families. It is our vision that such a group would hold to great classical works of the masters and traditional Christian repertoire. Let us know if you are interested.
The Northwest Academy of Music has been providing music programs for private Christian schools for twenty-two years. We are happy to tailor any music program to meet the needs of your school. With our wealth of knowledge and experience, we offer a Christ-centered approach in various musical styles from traditional to contemporary.
We offer a fabulous preschool and kindergarten program in addition to choral, traditional band, and guitar programs for elementary, middle, and high school age groups. Teaching high school students how to lead in a worship band setting is also our specialty. We try to keep the cost as low as possible and can help you find creative ways to fund the program you wish to implement in your school.
We offer one free field trip per class per year to area Christian schools during the school year. Call today to see if you qualify for this program. Part of our presentation covers what God made music for and the Scriptural commands we are to follow, such as: "Sing to the Lord a new song! Psalm 96:1a". We speak about how one can pursue musical excellence before God and the special offering it is to Him. Each session lasts about an hour and fifteen minutes.

SCHOOL FIELD TRIPS
Area churches and The Northwest Academy of Music are willing to team up to provide a badly needed service to the children of Christian families in our community. It has been a continuous challenge for families like yours to find affordable music education services for their children. Parents of home schooled and Christian school students (and Christian schools themselves) have often found the cost prohibitive to provide any kind of music education for the children God has entrusted to their care. There are no easy answers, but we may be able to help provide a solution.
As the director of the Northwest Academy of Music in Coeur d’Alene for many years, I have often prayed about this situation. Music is an amazing channel through which we can worship God and make a meaningful connection to Him and to others. I have often felt for those I have observed in church services who have so little confidence in their own ability to worship God in song that their singing is barely audible or nonexistent. With proper training, all children can be taught to sing on pitch, play an instrument, and read music (with a few exceptions, e.g. disabilities, etc.) Praise and worship are referred to as a sacrifice to God in the Scriptures. I believe that it is God’s will that we sing and play instruments as a form of worship to Him.
Just as we teach children to read in order to give them direct access to the Bible throughout their lives, we should teach children how to sing or play musical instruments to give them direct access to God through worship. For most families this involves obtaining outside help in educating their children in the subject of music.
We would like to launch a choir and band program that would be available to students from any Christian family in the area for a nominal fee. The Northwest Academy of Music would provide highly qualified instructors. Music that the students perform could be chosen by a cooperative effort on the part of parents and teachers involved in the program. We need a team of volunteers to get it going.
Each class group would need to have a minimum number of 25 students in order to keep the cost down to around $2.50 per lesson per student. The Northwest Academy of Music would receive enough of the tuition money to cover overhead costs, and additional money over and above that amount could be used for scholarships, promotion, or student materials. Each group would have at least one recital performance per semester. We can offer a scholarship position for a student who has a family member that can help accompany their child’s choir group on the piano. We ask that you prayerfully consider involvement with us and pass the word on to others.
Program Highlights: It is our objective to worship our Lord through excellence in musical expression. We can do this through an inspiring program that provides weekly music lessons open to all area students who follow Christ. We will give students the tools they need to glorify God throughout their lives. We hope to produce musicians who will be able to serve the Body of Christ and be a light and example to the world in their musical offerings to God.
Our young children's Harmony Road musicianship courses are the most effective way to train elementary age students in all the musical skills essential to serving the Body of Christ. Students learn to read and play music, sing on pitch, improvise and arrange pieces of music and transpose music into other keys. They also learn to play in ensemble with other musicians. Learning how to accompany oneself and others as they sing is a core part of the curriculum in the third and fourth year. Students naturally develop self confidence, performance skills, and leadership abilities by playing in front of one another each week. We offer entry level beginner courses for pre-k to kindergarten (Harmony Road), first and second grade (Young Musician), third through fifth grade (Keyboard Prep), and sixth through eighth grades (Piano Street).
1) 1st through 3rd grade.
2) 4th through 8th grade.
3) 9th through 12th grade.
